McCauley Daye O’Connell Architects: Architectural Graduate

I have recently completed my first year of continuing work placement at McCauley Daye O’Connell (Mdo) Architects in Dublin as an Architectural Graduate. The position of Architectural Graduate applies to recently graduated architecture students, building the relevant practical experience to sit Chartered Professional Exams (RIAI, ARB…etc).

MDO are situated at Merrion Square, Dublin City Centre Southside, with most of their portfolio of past and ongoing work centering around Dublin city, County and around Ireland. They have worked extensively on the Grand Canal Square Redevelopment at Grand Canal Dock, Dublin.

The Grand Canal Dock Redevelopment consists of an urban square designed by Landscape Architect Martha Schwartz, the Square is overlooked by The Bord Gais Energy Theatre and associated GCS Offices by Studio Daniel Liebeskind, and the Marker Hotel by Manual Mateus of Aries Mateus & Associates along with many more new buildings and structures.

MDO were established in 2004 by architects Robert McCauley, Dan Daye and David O’ Connell. Their most noteworthy projects to date include The Marker Hotel at Grand Canal Square, Dublin (where their role was to realise the concept design by Manual Mateus of Aries Mateus & Associates).

MDO had a similar on-site architects role in the realisation of The Bord Gais Theatre concept design by Studio Daniel Liebeskind.

Situated at each end of the Theater are Grand Canal Square Offices, these commercial offices (No. 2, 4 & 5 Grand Canal Square) is where I have received most of my work experience opportunities throughout the year.

Most of my work placement was spent on the construction stage of the shell and core fitout of No.4 GCS Offices (AKA the new Facebook EU Headquarters), although I did spend time on the construction stage of No.5 GCS and the tender stage of No.2 GCS.
